FODS TRACKOUT CONTROL MAT
The Reusable Construction Entrance
FODS Trackout Control Mats provide a durable, reusable construction entrance system minimizing sediment and debris tracked onto impermeable roadways. With FODS, contractors can quickly establish a stabilized entrance and relocate access locations as the project progresses.
The system is built with extremely durable HDPE and is designed to last. With a 3 year warranty and a lifespan of 10+ years, FODS mats offer contractors an effective solution for erosion and sediment control.
With FODS contractors can:
Reuse throughout highway or pipeline projects
Reduce trackout on land development work
Eliminate rocks tracking onto active roadways
Install over asphalt on urban projects
Deploy a stabilized entrance in 30 minutes
Save money on every project
Stay compliant with SWPPP and EPA guidelines by using FODS construction entrance that is up to 59% more effective than rock.
FODS vs Rock
Only 2 Trips
With FODS, you can transport your entire construction entrance using a standard trailer. FODS do not require excavation prior to installing, or remediation after construction eliminating the need for heavy equipment.
Over 16 Trips
Traditional rock entrances don’t just require one load of gravel to create. Most will require additional rock to maintain the effectiveness of the entrance. And at the end of the job, the contaminated stone must be brought to a landfill
Built-In Ramp
FODS Trackout Control Mats feature a built-in ramp which provides easier vehicle access onto the mats.
The redesigned structure includes two rows of pyramids that are set at a reduced height to provide the gradual transition to the tops of the pyramids 3 3/4” inches from the substrate.
Wash Board Effect
When multiple mats are connected together, the tapered pyramids create a washboard effect as vehicles drive through the system which can help to shake and dislodge additional debris from the undercarriage of the vehicle.
FODS INSTALLATION & MATERIAL INFORMATION
The FODS System is modular and can be configured with a wide turn radius or in a two lane configuration for larger equipment. Typical configurations use 4 or 5 mats in series to provide adequate tire rotations for sediment removal.
FODS Trackout Control Mats Layout
Standard Highway Vehicles
A single lane configuration is used to create a 12’ wide exit lane which will accomodate standard highway vehicles.
When all construction traffic will exit the site in the same direction, onto a one-way road for example, the entrance can be angled towards the direction of traffic.
COMMONLY USED TO REPLACE 50’ ROCK ENTRANCE.
FODS Trackout Control Mats Layout
Wide Turning Radius
A “T” shape configuration is used to create a 12’ wide exit lane which will accomodate standard highway vehicles.
The “T” provides a wide turning radius for construction vehicles. Vehicles can exit onto the roadway and turn in either direction. The two mats on the top of the “T” are placed towards the road.
COMMONLY USED TO REPLACE 50’ ROCK ENTRANCE.
FODS Trackout Control Mats Layout
Off Highway Vehicles
To accomodate larger haul vehicles, a dual lane configuration is used. This configuration provides 24’ exiting lane for articulated haul trucks and front end loaders which will exit the site.
If needed, a “T” shape can be built on a dual lane layout by placing three mats on the front row of the exit closest to the road.
USED FOR OFF-HIGHWAY EQUIPMENT OR TWO LANE EXITS.
FODS Mats Placement & Prep
FODS Mats Anchoring
FODS Track out system must be anchored in place. Anchor points are located around the perimeter of each mat. Four (4) anchors are recommended per mat when installing over dirt, sand, or other soft substrates. Two (2) anchors are recommended per mat when installing over concrete, alphalt or other hard substrates. Select anchor holes where mat is most flush with the ground. Anchors are sold separately.
Round Head Stake
Predrill the holes for the stakes using a 3/4″ drill bit.
Use a sledge hammer to drive the stakes into the substrate.
Screw Anchor
Predrill the holes for the stakes using a 3/4″ drill bit. Remove debris
Use an impact driver with a 1-1/8″ socket, drive the anchor into the concrete.
Concrete Form Stake
Predrill the holes for the stakes using a 3/4″ drill bit.
Use a sledge hammer to drive the stakes into the substrate.
Add washer and pin as shown, then hammer stake until flush
Expandable Sleeve Anchor
Predrill the holes for the stakes using a 3/4″ concrete drill bit. Remove debris.
Use a sledge hammer to drive the stakes into the substrate.
Using an impact driver with a 15/16″ socket, expand the anchor.
FODS Mats Maintenance
Maintenance will be required throughout the project as sediment builds between the pyramids. Vehicle tires only make contact with the tips of the pyramids so maintenance is required when sediment reaches 2.5” above the base of the mat.
Maintenance is completed by cleaning the mats to remove sediment. The mats can be cleaned manually using a FODS shovel or with a skid steer with a broom attachment, or with a street sweeper with adjustable heads.
In many cases, cleaning is conducted proactively as part of the routine street sweeping schedule which ensures that the entrance always remains in good condition.
PORTABLE
FODS can be installed in 30 minutes over nearly any substrate. FODS Trackout Control Mats can be fully installed with hand tools, no excavation required. Install over dirt or existing concrete, and asphalt.
DURABLE
The FODS Construction Entrance System is engineered to be reused multiple times. FODS have an expected lifespan of over ten years, or 1,000,000 passes of an 80,000 lbs vehicle.
EFFECTIVE
Independent tests have shown that FODS are 59% more effective than rock construction entrances. The Trackout Control Mats enable contractors to stay compliant on heavy traffic job sites.
